Jess Aberman joined Vernis & Bowling of Broward in 2012 and specializes in defending high exposure and aggressively litigated first-party commercial and commercial-residential property insurance actions, which are intertwined with construction defect defenses.
Jess was born in Montreal, Canada and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, with an Honors Bachelors of Business Administration degree. She was admitted with the highest academic entrance scholarship, was on the Dean’s List in all semesters and was awarded the Dean’s Honors Award for graduating in the top 5% of the class.
Jess moved to Miami in 2004 to attend the University of Miami School of Law (JD ’07), at which time she was also invited to apply to UM’s MBA program on a scholarship, which she accepted and became a JD/MBA. She founded the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (UM Law Chapter) in 2004-2005, and was elected as the Vice President of the Management Consulting Club and also as the Executive Assistant to the President, in the Graduate Business School from 2006-2008.
Prior to joining Vernis & Bowling of Broward, Jess practiced First and Third-Party Insurance Defense, Construction Defect Litigation (including Chinese Drywall) and General Civil Litigation. She also has experience in complex real estate litigation, residential real estate development, land use and zoning law, and drafting and negotiating real estate LOIs and PSAs.
Jess enjoys defending high exposure insurance cases because it affords her the opportunity to review voluminous documentation, in detail, in order to find that diamond in rough; that piece of information upon which the case may turn, or upon which the defense of the case may lie. She enjoys the strategic element of the defense, in addition to being attentive to each detail that develops through the course of litigation.
Jess enjoys the South Florida weather and the local cultural festivals on her free time.
