On February 1, 1960, North Carolina A&T University students David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair Jr. (Jibreel Khazan) and Joseph McNeil carried out the infamous lunch counter sit-in at the F.W. Woolworth store. An outdoor statue of the four brave men marks their place in our nation’s civil rights history. The “February One” monument is located at 202 University Circle, Greensboro, NC 27401, USA.

To celebrate Black History Month, each week in February we will highlight a state in the Civil Rights Trail that is also a state with a Vernis & Bowling office. Experiencing the sites and museums that commemorate these events, we hope to gain a broader understanding of the early stages of the Civil Rights Movement. First up is North Carolina.
