Ashlee Teel v Taurus Larenzo Young

Mitch Evans (Atlanta, GA) (Automobile Liability) obtained a Defense Verdict in the case of Ashlee Teel v. Taurus Larenzo Young. Defendant struck Plaintiff, a pedestrian, and fled the scene. Defendant pled guilty to aggravated assault. Plaintiff’s injuries included an L3 burst fracture requiring surgery and medical expenses in excess of $290,000.00. Safeway Ins Co. of GA provided $25,000 in liability coverage. Suit was filed after a dispute over whether Safeway properly accepted the claimant’s pre-suit policy limits settlement demand. Defendant’s Motion for Summary Judgment to enforce settlement was denied by the trial court and case went to trial in March 2020. Jury returned a defense verdict after 10 minutes of deliberations. Plaintiff has a motion for new trial pending. According to Safeway’s regional manager it was the most significant case the company had ever taken to trial anywhere in the country.
